Overview

A DP audit asks a single practical question in many different ways: if this vessel loses a component while working, what happens next? Answering it requires examination of the power plant, thrusters, references, control system, maintenance regime and the people on watch.

Our audits are vessel specific. Findings are written against the vessel's own configuration and intended operation rather than against a generic template.

How does a DP audit differ from proving trials?
An audit is an examination of documentation, configuration, maintenance and practice. Proving trials are a practical demonstration that the system behaves as the FMEA predicts. They complement each other.
Do you assess DP operator competence?
We review certification, familiarisation records, logging practice and watch arrangements. We do not issue DP operator certification.
Is a DP audit a regulatory requirement?
Requirements vary by flag, class, charterer and field. We do not present our work as regulatory approval; it supports the vessel's technical evidence base.
What is the worst case failure design intent?
It is the statement of the single failure the vessel is designed to withstand without losing position. Everything in the redundancy concept follows from it.
How long does an audit take?
Typically one to three days on board depending on vessel complexity and DP class.
